PEP Start Clinics

When getting to the Early Years Center we were greeted by a representative for the PEP Start clinics. They made us feel really comfortable with the situation that we were facing and also during the wait Adara was able to keep busy playing in the early years center, as we filled out some paperwork. At the actual appointment we met with a pathologist that was able to clearly see and define where Adara was lacking in her development. It was a quick, simple and stress free process. They were very helpful in giving tips and strategies that we could implement immediately at home.

We were lucky with Adara being under 30 months as it allowed her to get therapy a bit sooner as we had taken her to the PEP starts clinics to be screened. Children who are under 30 months that have early screening can have more of a chance when it comes to intervention and having a greater effect on how that child will develop. This also allowed us to finally speak our concerns to a therapist that had now given us the ability to come to the conclusion something was wrong and it enabled our decision to finally take action.

By going to one of these clinics your child can get referred and maybe able to access services quicker for therapy, as we were able to get Adara referred on Erin Oaks Waitlist rather than waiting for our doctor's appointment which was 6 months down the road to get her diagnosed. Making this call can make all the difference in your child's disability and making advances as opposed to it being too late because the longer the wait, the harder it is to turn the clocks back and get them back to them. This Clinic in place has brought me to realize how much help we have out there and not enough people know that these resources are available and we can get our children help to make progress quicker. I want any child, parent and family to have the right to understand and know that there is so much out there to help, we just need to look for it. I am so greatful that we got to experience Autism as it has allowed me to see how many amazing people are out there helping all children with disabilities. Organizations such as this one are making sure that they are being screened and getting intervention which creates a better future for all these children.

Please note: PEP Start is a walk- in clinic available for families who are concerned about their child's development. These clinics are held at Early Years Centers in Peel once a month for children newborn upto 5 years old. No appointment is required and there is no fee for the services offered. If the child is 30 months or younger they may receive therapy earlier than a child over 30 months.
