Daycare as Therapy?

Adara's Process

This part of Adara' s development was so crucial. I truly believe it gave Adara the boost that she needed in order to be able to succeed in the upcoming years. These teachers created an environment that Adara and every other child in that class could thrive. They set up many opportunities for success for all of their students through the use of developmentally appropriate tasks and group activities. Adara loved being there and by the end of preschool she understood a lot and was ready for Kindergarten.

One of the most important things in life is LOVE, and these teachers loved their job. They treated every single one of the children in their class, as if they were their own. I am so glad that Adara had the opportunity to be able to experience daycare because it helped her grow exponentially. The daycare teachers aided by a  resource teacher from Brampton Caledon Community LIving (BCCL), were able to work in tandem to make the environment accessible to Adara. They provided Adara with a lot of pictures of her environment, giving her the opportunity to learn visually. This promoted Labelling, as children with Autism learn well through the use of visuals.

I also felt comfortable with Adara being at that center as I was an employee of it for a brief time in my life. So it was really nice to see her grow and develop at a place that I hold dear to my heart as this is where most of my experience before I had children came from.

If you are unable to afford full time daycare you can always try to apply for subsidy with the Region of Peel to help cover part of the expense of your child's daycare fees. When your child has a disability the Region does take this into consideration and does the best they can to get your child the support they need to develop. I had read and heard from many specialists that when your child has Autism early intervention really helps. It helped my daughter, and putting her in a daycare where she could be around other children with whom she built great relationships with. Basically these children, her schoolmates helped her to develop. If I had kept her at home she probably would not have developed to the point where she is right now socially. So to these amazing children, I have so much gratitude for them being a part of Adara's healing experience.

*This is really a Form of therapy for a child's development, whether your child may have special needs or not. Seeing my daugther progress from being afraid to sit and stay on a tricycle to riding a tricylce and scooter within the span of one year, brought me to the conclusion that daycare helped her in areas that she may not of have developed at home. Not to mention how smooth of a transition she had going into Kindergarten. All thanks to the daycare teachers, daycare director, resource teacher and teachers at the school who all worked closely to ensure Adara's success with her entry into the first weeks of KIndergarten. *
